Y11 families – key dates and information reminder

Earlier this month I shared a letter with key information about the upcoming examination period for Y11 students. The information below is the same as that shared previously and is intended as a helpful reminder of the key dates and arrangements as we move closer to the exam season.

If you are reading this on Monday 16 March, there will be just 28 days until Y11 students sit their first exam in the exam hall. While the final stretch is approaching quickly, there is still plenty of time for students to continue building their confidence and consolidating their knowledge.

As we move closer to the summer examination period, we would like to remind you of some key dates and information to help support your child in the coming weeks.

We can confirm that the first day of public GCSE examinations is Thursday 7 May, and the final contingency day is Wednesday 24 June.

Please note that some subjects with coursework and practical components have final assessments that take place before the main written exam period:

  • Drama Component 3 (all-day exam) – 13 April
  • Dance exam showcase – 17 March
  • Dance coursework moderation – 28 April
  • Music coursework deadline – 23 March
  • Art final exam – 20 and 21 April
  • Art final portfolio deadline – 1 May
  • PE practical exam – week beginning 13 April
  • Modern Languages external speaking exams – 20–23 April

These assessments are a vital part of students’ final grades, and we are supporting them closely in preparation. Your role is also really important in helping students stay organised. We recommend sitting down together to look through the key dates and discussing how your child plans to revise and manage their time over the coming weeks.

Students have received physical copies of their individual GCSE exam timetables (handed out on Friday 13 March), which show the date and time of every exam they are entered for. We have also emailed copies home for your reference. If you notice anything that concerns you, please contact Silvia Sevilla (Exams Officer – ssevilla@aclandburghley.camden.sch.uk), Will Allen (Year Team Leader), or myself directly.

Final core mock examinations

Students will complete their final set of core mock examinations in the exam hall this week. These mocks are an important milestone and provide a valuable opportunity for students to experience exam conditions and receive final feedback ahead of the summer exams. Please see the timetable below for full details.

Additional mock exams not in the Sports Hall

  • Maths Non-Calculator Paper 1 will be sat in class the week prior (9-13 March)
  • Science Biology Paper 2 will be sat in class after the Easter Holidays on Friday 17 April

Revision sessions

As a reminder, we run revision sessions every day of the week, both before and after school. The timetable is included below. These sessions are delivered by subject specialists and are a great opportunity for students to receive additional support and guidance. Our library is also open before and after school each day, providing a quiet and focused space for independent study.

We are currently finalising the timetable for our Easter Revision Programme and will share full details (including subjects and dates) later this half-term, likely during the week beginning 23 March. We strongly encourage students to attend as many sessions as possible. The library will also be open each day during the Easter break to provide a calm and purposeful study environment.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

These final weeks are about calmness, consistency and confidence. We are very proud of how hard our students are working, and we remain committed to supporting them every step of the way.
