What to expect from your subjects
Y6 to Y7 transition film
Our departments and faculties have produced a lovely video to give new Y7 students some insight into what they will learn in a number of subjects when they join us.
Be Awesome, Go Big
A programme of activities to help our future students make the transition from Y6 into Y7.
We would have loved to have seen you all come into our school on 1 July to explore and have a taste of what life at Acland Burghley is like. As we are unable to do this at the moment, we would like to take you through big ideas and challenges to get you prepared for secondary school life. These sessions are based on 2 great books. It is not necessary to have copies or read them, but we strongly suggest that you add them to your reading list. The books are:
You Are Awesome by Matthew Syed
ISBN-13: 9781526361332
Children's book of the year 2019, Sunday Times number one bestseller
Go Big by Matthew Burton
ISBN-13: 9781526362360
"If you have kids transitioning from primary to secondary school, this book is for you (well, for your kids!) … Helpful, funny and encouraging." Sarah Turner, AKA The Unmumsy Mum
Before we start the programme
Make sure that you have opened the workbook to the right page for each chapter. We recommend doing one session per week, but if you want more things to do whilst at home, go to the last page where there is a grid of activities you could be doing.
The sessions
Click on each of the titles and it will take to the PowerPoint for that session.
Session 1: Being Awesome
Session 2: Unlocking your mind
Session 3: Dare to take risks
Session 4: Making the change
Session 5: Lost but not lost
Session 6: Bouncebackability
Session 7: What is normal anyway
Session 8: Friendships and fallouts
Session 9: Living well
We hope that not only do you enjoy these activities but you learn a bit more about yourself and build the skills necessary to have a seamless transition into Y7.
Remember to send us some pictures of you taking part in some of the challenges by emailing transition@aclandburghley.camden.sch.uk.
We hope that you enjoy it.
