Afternoon tea at a Hall for All
Building on relationships forged over the last 18 months with Wellesely Road Care Home, Maitland Park Care Home, St Mary Brookfield Church and Highgate Newtown Community Partners, students from Acland Burghley School planned and presented an afternoon tea and Winter Wellbeing event for elderly people living locally.
During the day on Friday, 16 students from Y8 baked cakes, made sandwiches, decorated the hall and laid the tables. At around 2.15pm 20 guests arrived. Our students welcomed guests, performed card tricks and served them with food and refreshments. At 2.30pm the entertainments commenced with four students from Y10 and two students from Y8 impressing us all with performances on the piano, violin, guitar and oboe, as well as wonderful singing.
We learned that one of our guests, Dolly who is 102 years old, had three sons who attended the school that was previously on the school site before our current Brutalist building was constructed! One of our students will follow up with Dolly to find out more about her family’s story.
A great time was had by all.
Desmond, Dolly and Halina really enjoyed their time with your students and have already asked when they can come back.
