New Parent Governor

We would like to congratulate Wanda Wyporska on her new appointment as Parent Governor! We'd also like to thank Fiona McGuire for standing in the election and every family who took the time to cast their vote. A reminder of Wanda's statement is below.

About me

I have a son in year 7, am a charity Chief Executive, and have lived in the area for over 15 years. I am standing because the current governing body is not representative of the diverse make-up of the students. Most importantly, I am passionate about building on work ABS is already doing, recognising that there is always room for improvement.

My skills and relevant experience

I've spent decades challenging social and economic inequalities, especially in education, policy and practice, as the head of equalities at an education trade union. As CEO of The Equality Trust, an advisor on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion to the Mayor of London, and an advisor to government bodies, I have worked on tackling discrimination and on social justice, particularly on race, gender, class and sexuality. I've been a governor of a primary school and trustee of several charities, including Redthread, a youth charity. I've set and run budgets and strategy and provided oversight in my trustee roles. I have experience as an academic, in media and in diversifying boards and mentoring people regarded as minorities to take on leadership roles.

My priorities

I want to make sure that all parents feel valued by the school community and part of it. I will support the school, parents and students to work together, as a richly diverse community, to make sure ABS is the best it can be for all students. There is always more to do to ensure that students are happy, healthy and able to fulfill their full potential.
