Introducing the Head of School

We are delighted to announce that Governors have appointed current Deputy Headteacher Martha Collins as the new full time Head of School.

Martha will work alongside Headteacher Nicholas John, as his role takes him away from Camden for 2 days each week for next academic year.

Martha brings significant experience and expertise to her new role, having served at Acland Burghley for 9 years in a variety of different positions, including Deputy Headteacher since 2018. She is a teacher of modern languages, who specialises in safeguarding and teaching and learning. She previously worked at Fortismere School in various pastoral and curriculum leadership roles.

Martha is highly ambitious for the students of Acland Burghley School. She says:

Nine years ago, when I started here at Acland Burghley, I could not have imagined the opportunities I would have had working in this amazing community. As a local parent to two girls, I want us to continue to do the work that makes us a trusted, exciting and ambitious place for your children.

I will continue to be available to families: your feedback is crucial to my leadership and our priorities. My goals are high expectations in all areas of our school alongside a good amount of space for creativity, plus maintaining the excellent staff we are so lucky to have.

Nicholas and Martha are looking forward to hosting the school’s annual Creating Excellence Together awards evening from 4.30pm to 8pm on Friday 14 July. The event will feature the school’s annual Art Exhibition, Drama, Music and Dance performances, and our student awards, including special awards from our Orchestra in Residence, the OAE. The abPTA are putting on a Barbecue with drinks and a raffle. Prize Giving starts at 5.15pm at the Amphitheatre. Everyone is welcome to attend.
