Dear Parents, Carers, and Families,
As the new Y11 team leader, I would like to introduce myself and share some of my initial observations of Y11 so far. Last year, I was lucky enough to take the then Y11 cohort though their final year, having been their Head of Year since Y7. I am excited to be taking the new Y11 cohort through their final academic year with a strong Y11 team. I look forward to working with all of the students and each and every one of you this academic year.
I will be working alongside the Y11 Student Progress Leader, Ms Louka, who has worked with Y11 since Y10 and Ms McLean, the Director of Learning for Key Stage 4. We are already incredibly pleased with the way students have conducted themselves in the last two weeks, returning to school with a positive mindset and ready to take on the challenges of Y11. We have visited a large number of lessons and have seen students showing resilience and producing excellent work.
Students have been settled, engaged and focused, and a return to school after the summer holidays has only increased students desire to achieve the best possible grades.
Teaching staff have also been sharing many positive experiences from inside of the classroom. In addition to this, the Y11 have been great role models around the school for younger students. They have been welcoming and helpful to our new students and the new Y7s. It is evident that students are the driving force behind this positive start and we congratulate them on all their hard work and dedication to their own learning and being part of the Acland Burghley community.
Attendance and punctuality remain something we will monitor closely. As students are in Y11 we need to be mindful that any time off will impact their success during examinations. A reminder that students need to be in school by 8.35am in order to be on time to registration which begins at 8.40am. Any students arriving to school after this time will have daily detentions with their tutor. A reminder that continued lateness to school will result in an hour detention each Friday afternoon with the Year Team.
Finally, I would like to invite you to attend a parents and families information evening on Thursday 23 September 2021. The information evening will provide you with information on and a timeline of the academic year ahead. The Year Team will also provide information on the upcoming October mock assessments which are of high importance to students. The meeting will take place via zoom (details will follow via the family’s bulletin). I look forward to speaking to all of you then.
In the meantime, if you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact myself, email@example.com or the Ks4 Year 11 Team.
