Enrichment opportunities for Y12 A-Level maths students with the IOE this summer!
Dear Families and students studying As-level maths,
I wanted to draw your attention to some excellent enrichment opportunities that your child is eligible to apply to and attend for free in June and July this summer.
What is it?
A live online data challenge hosted by University College London
What will your day involve?
With the help of academics and students from University College London, you’ll be the detective, tackling real-life mysteries like the differences in happiness between countries or the value of a new film release. You’ll work on a project online in small teams. We’ll give you the data and you’ll bring the questions. Just like a detective, to solve the case you'll need to form hypotheses of what you think is really going on behind the data and gather your suspected statistics. With expert support for each team, we will teach you how to follow leads and interrogate the data till it talks. You’ll learn how to explore data, unearth insights and reveal patterns, with the help of professional software to summarise and visualise data. Each day you’ll build your knowledge with streamed demonstrations, covering data analysis techniques and skills used in Data Science, statistics, data visualisation and even AI.
When is it?
From 9.30am to 12pm daily 20-24 June 2022
Where to find more information and how to apply?
Logic and Proof Summer School
What is it?
This 5-week long online summer school provides an opportunity for students to explore the heart of mathematics. The course covers the fundamentals of logic and standard mathematical proof. It naturally builds from interpreting and creating logical statements, to thinking critically and identifying errors in deductions, leading to being able to construct mathematically sound proofs. It is run in a format similar to a 1st year undergraduate module at UCL, and is taught by lecturers in the department, supported by PhD students.
This is for keen students doing Maths and Further Maths A Level only. There are only two places available per school but please do email me to let me know if you are interested and I can see if they are able to accommodate more students. If you are interested please complete the registration form by the end of day on the 27 May 2022 as well as emailing me. If you have any further questions directly for the course leaders please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
When is it?
