Illness, Accidents and Signing Out

Absence due to Illness
Parents must communicate with the school every time a child misses even half a day. If your child is ill you should telephone the school before 8.40am on 020 7485 8515 and when prompted by the automated system, select option 1 to report your child’s absence. Please include your child’s name, year and tutor group and the reason for their absence. This must be done for every day your child is off, unless a doctor’s note/letter is provided to cover an extended period of time.

Illness and Accidents In School
If your child is unwell or has an accident they must tell a teacher straight away. Depending on the nature of the illness/accident your child may be sent to the school office where there is a first aid room. If your child is too ill to remain in school, the primary parent/carer will be contacted to either collect their child or give permission for them to make their own way home.

First Aid facilities are available within the following areas of the school:

General Office
Technology Workshop Area
Science Area - Technicians' Room
MRO – next door to il@b
Art Base

If you should sustain an injury or have the need for First Aid you should report to the first aid area nearest to you at the time. If you are unable to make it there unassisted ask someone else to contact the first aiders with your location and assistance will come to you. There are limited facilities for needs out of school hours within the school keeping area (school keepers' office is opposite the general office). This should only be used before 8.30am or after 4.30pm.

Medicine
Students required to have medication in school
We require written requests from parents/carers to hold medication for their child in the school office. Please download and complete the Parental Agreement for School to Administer Medicine form. The completed form should be given to the school office at the same time as their medication is brought in.

If your child suffers from severe allergic reactions and is at risk of anaphylaxis, please make sure that you provide the school with two epipens for your child. You will need to complete the same form as above.

Parents/carers must also provide written consent for their child to carry any medication within school, this includes antihistamines, inhalers, paracetamol and Nurofen. Should your child need to carry medication with them please download and complete the Request for Child to Carry his/her Own Medicine form. The completed form must be returned to the school office prior to your child carrying any medication into school.

Note: a separate form must be completed for each medicine.

If you do not have access to a printer, copies can be collected from the school office.

Signing Out
Medical/dental appointments should be made outside school hours. If this is not possible and your child must leave school during the day for any reason then please send a letter or put a note in your childs’ student planner in advance of the date.

Students must sign out at the general office and will receive an exit slip. If they return later on the same day then they must sign in again.
