Help protect your child from CyberbullyingAcland Burghley PTA: Tuesday November 24 at 7pm in the ilab (school library)All parents carers and staff welcomeTexting, instant messaging and social networking sites have opened up a wonderful new world of freedom and communication for our children, but if we are not careful it can also expose them to a scary largely unpoliced world where secrets, photographs and malicious texts can be posted on the internet, or spread round the world at the touch of a button. But there are ways to keep your child safe without standing over their shoulder 24 hours a day or confiscating their laptop. John Carr, one of the world's leading expert on child internet safety, and a former Acland Burghley parent, will be showing us how at the next Acland Burghley PTA meeting. John Carr is an Executive Board member of the recently launched UK Council on Child Internet Safety. He was a founding member of the Home Secretary’s Internet Task Force on Child Protection where he chaired the sub group that developed a kitemark for internet safety software. John was also a member of the education ministry’s Universal Home Access Task Force, and has advised and evaluated for the EU. In May, 2006, John was named by the New Statesman as one of 50 “Modern Heroes”. He, along with a technicallly wised-up student, and staff from the school, will be showing us, as parents, how we can help our children stay safe in Cyberspace. So do come along, refreshments will be served and we will have plenty of time for questions. |
