“The limits of my language means the limits of my world.”
Ludwig Wittgenstein

Welcome to English! Here you will meet a vast range of exciting and varied texts which we delve into in class. You will have the opportunity to discuss interesting topics, to write challenging essays and to create your own characters and stories.
You will also be able to take part in competitions and go on exciting theatre and poetry trips. We also offer a variety of clubs such as Myths and Legends, Spelling Club and Master classes which you are welcome to attend.

Spelling

As part of a whole school literacy drive to raise standards in spelling the English department, in partnership with year teams, will be setting key spellings for students to learn each week in Key Stage 3. These will be tailored to each year group and will vary in difficulty by week to ensure that all students are being stretched.

Students will be tested in form time by their tutors once a week so that the learning of spellings is practised routinely, preparing students for the spelling, punctuation and grammar demands of the new GCSE curricula.

Please support your child's learning by helping them revise these key spellings as well as any others highlighted in their exercise books by class teachers. Some strategies for learning spellings can be found on the link below:
