getting our voices heard

Current campaigns being run by citizenship students this year
  • Lower university tuition fees- received a detailed government response.

  • Greater employment opportunities for young people- received a response from MP Preeti Patel’s office.

  • Raising awareness of mental health issues in school- will inform how a grant is spent at Acland Burghley school.

  • Increase the political engagement of young people- Students met with Mr John and contacted local MPs. Resulted in a visit and talk from MP Keir Starmer. To be followed by a visit from Green Party MP.

  • Lobbying to end the death penalty facilitated a session for Y7 students raising awareness of the death penalty and received a response from Camden LGBT group who try to raise awareness of the death penalty and how it affects homosexual individuals.

  • Challenging stereotypes around young people - received a response from Just For Kids Law.

  • Improving Police relations – students interviewed the Safer Schools Police Officer and contacted police stations in Camden.

  • Raising awareness and developing understanding of LGBT and transgender issues. Students created original resources and sent them to Camden consortium schools who have agreed to use them as part of their PSHCEE programme.
